White Space

Dev & startup terminologies | Noun

like white noise for the eyes. White space is the area between elements on a page and also the space within individual design elements. It prevents things from getting too crowded and it allows the eye to rest on a neutral surface. For something which is virtually nothing, white space is quite powerful. It can make or break a design. Too little white space and the design gets cluttered, too much white space and it stops making sense because you can no longer grasp the relationship between elements.

“Why is white space also called negative space?”

“Because it's bad if you don't have enough of it.”
