Repository

Dev process terms, Advanced IT Terms | Noun

a storage space for all your code and broken dreams. A repository, “repo” for short, holds software packages which can be installed and updated using Package Managers. Repositories are also the primary way of organizing software projects, since they contain a collection of files representing different versions of a project (branches). These files are managed through a Version Control System which creates the versions and stores them in the repository. This also allows users to import them on their local machine, work on them and then update the repository.

“What do repositories and trees have in common?” “Stop trying, Jim.”
