two words: “floating cards”. Material Design is a design language developed by Google which relies heavily on drop shadows to convey depth and elevation. The entire Material Design philosophy is inspired by the physical world and its textures (hence “material”). This includes how objects reflect light and cast shadows. Shadows are used to convey how elevated an element is (small, less blurry shadow - closer to the background; large, blurry shadow - further from the background, closer to the user). Shadows also indicate if an element is clickable
