the type of family where a Comic Sans of humor is frowned upon. A font family is a collection of fonts which have a common design, but differ in terms of weight (light, normal, bold etc.) or slant (roman, italic). Overall, there are five basic families of fonts: serif, sans serif, cursive, fantasy and monospace. For example, Times New Roman is a serif font family, consisting of four variations such as Times New Roman, Times New Roman Bold, Times New Roman Italic, Times New Roman Bold Italic.
