Containers are the solution to the problem of getting software to reliably run when moved from one computing environment to another. Popularized by Docker, container technology solves the issue of a stable environment. For example, you might test a project using Python 2.7 and then you are going to run it on Python 3 in production. This will invariably cause problems. Containers solve this by providing consistency across environments.
