Command Line Interface (CLI)

Advanced IT Terms | Noun

the thing that is guaranteed to make you look like a hacker, even if you are just switching between folders. As opposed to a GUI, which is a graphical interface, a Command Line Interface (CLI) is text-based. The user types in commands in a terminal and the commands get executed by the software. The output is then represented in the same manner, as lines of text in the CLI. Power users use the CLI to install software, configure computers and sometimes access features missing in the graphical interface.

“If ancient Egyptians lived today, I wonder if they would still use hieroglyphs.”

“They would probably use bash in a CLI.”
